DIY Deckled Edge Paper
Jump to DIY Deckled Edge Paper
As I mentioned last week, I already knew I wanted my Wedding Welcome Cards to be on deckle edge paper. If you aren’t familiar, this is when the paper has a torn edge. I knew I wanted the look but I also knew I didn’t want to pay the price of deckled edge paper!

Step 1: Print Welcome Cards on Heavy Cardstock

I purchased a pack of cardstock on Amazon and printed my cards right at home.
TIP: Before you print, add lines where you want the deckled edge to be! I did not do this and ended up having to mark each Welcome Card. If you add lines, you can skip Step #2!
Step 2: Mark Edge
If you followed my tip from Step #1, you can skip this step! Since I didn’t print my cards with any marked lines, I wanted to add a couple. Using a ruler, I measured where my content was the longest to see how much I could take off each side. Once I had a measurement, I did 4 tick marks down each side. I did not measure for the top and bottom. These sides were so short after I ripped off the long sides that I trusted myself to keep my lines relatively straight!

For reference: The main Welcome Cards (with the timeline), I marked at 3.5 cm and 18 cm to take off 3.5cm on each side. I wanted my cards to be slightly different sizes, so for the Recommendations List, I measured at 4 cm and 17.5cm to take 4 cm off each side.
Step 3: Wet the Paper
I dipped my paint brush into the water and made sure to wipe off any excess water on the side of the dish. Next, I brushed a straight line down the edge of the paper, following the lines I marked.

Step 4: Rip the Paper

The first time I did this I was so apprehensive, but it really does tear perfectly! I held my ruler on the inside of the wet line and tore the paper.
Step 5: Repeat Steps 2-4 for Remaining Sides
Finally, I repeated Steps 2-4 for the other three sides and I had my faux deckled edge!

This DIY intimidated me at first, but honestly it was so simple to do, I semi wish I had done them for our wedding invitations and place cards too!
