Entryway Built-Ins

Design Plan

Mood Board

This spring, the WST team is excited to share that we will be participating in the Spring 2025 ORC by building Entryway Built-Ins!

Check out all the participants Week 2 updates here!

We’re transforming Rachel’s entryway into a functional (and beautiful!) drop zone, complete with a DIY bench and custom locker-style built-ins. If you’ve ever wished your entryway could magically stay tidy—this one’s for you!

Bench & Lockers

The biggest transformation of this space will be a built-in bench & open lockers!  This past winter, I felt as if there are coats on every surface of my house. Now that we are in spring, there are coats AND raincoats hanging on backs of chairs, thrown on the breakfast table .. and the shoes, don’t get me started on the shoes.

This is not a big space by any means, but we can and will make it functional! We plan to build a bench that will run from the corner to the end of the window.  The portion of the bench under the window will serve as a spot to put on shoes, while the portion to the left of the window will have lockers built on top.

While I considered closed lockers, I know myself (and my family) and we will throw our coats onto the bench to avoid opening to doors (LOL). So, this space will serve as a spot for 1-2 coats per locker to hang, and maybe a few hats! I also intend to have a couple of hook on the wall to the left of the lockers.

Mail Drop Zone

Our family really needs a central “hub” where we can keep the mail, have a couple of phone chargers & more. Currently when you walk in the door, there are trash cans right as you walk in.  I plan to relocate these and turn this space into our mail drop / key hanging / family hub! This will give us space to set the mail, pin up important documents, check our family calendar & drop our keys!

I plan to relocate a plug as well so we have a spot to charge phones, speakers & more! The cabinet underneath can house items we frequently take in & out of the house, like our boat dry box!

Door Upgrade

Door

This door is outdated y’all.  I plan to paint the wooden surround of the door & add grid lines to give the door a more modern look.  This door had a custom door handle, so I’m not sure if I’ll be able to replace it but looking into that as well!

Decor

Lastly, but certainly not least, I want functional décor with a welcoming vibe as you walk in the door!  This is the door most people use when they come into our house.  Right now when you walk in, you’re hit with clutter and trash cans – I want to fix that!

I envision pops of color, while incorporating wood elements & a bright, welcoming feel.

I want to tie together my interior design style with FUNCTION.  I’m tired of coats hanging over the backs of chairs! I need a spot for shoes & coats to go, that is convenient and tidy.   Additionally, I NEED a mail drop area.  The mail ends up stacked everywhere.  This space will also serve as a hub for our family.  I want a cork board for hanging things & a spot for our family calendar to help track events.

The decorating ideas are endless, we will just have to see where we take it!
