How to Paint Dry Brush
If you are looking to learn how to paint dry brush, you’ve come to the right place! The Dry Brush Technique is super helpful when painting with stencils. We paint a lot with Cricut Stencils so we use this method often. Dry Brushing ensures that paint does not seep underneath tape or vinyl. We’ll share with you step by step our dry brush painting technique and some tips to be successful!

Step 1: Prep

Grab a paper plate and a couple of paper towels. Fold the paper towels and put them on top of the plate. This will be your wiping spot!
Step 2: Apply Paint to Stencil Paintbrush
Dab your paint brush into your paint. It’s best to start by dabbing on the lid, since only a tiny amount of paint is needed!

Step 3: Wipe Paint off Brush
Using the paper towel/paper plate combo you prepped, wipe the paint brush several times to remove any excess paint. Make sure your wipes look dry!

Step 4: Apply Paint in a Circular Motion

This is where you’re going to want the process to move faster… but don’t rush it! You will need to apply several coats to cover the area you are painting. It’s important to not give into temptation and apply too much paint – you’ll regret it! We apply our brush strokes in a light, circular motion.

Step 5: Repeat
Repeat steps 2-4 until you achieve the desired level of coverage. As mentioned, it takes a while to get the area fully covered. Be patient!
