DIY Wooden Love Letters

I decided to DIY these Mini Wooden Love Letters after finding heart skewers at the Dollar Tree! When I stumbled upon them in the store, I knew I would be able to find a good use for the mini wooden hearts. I found an old piece of trim in our shed and I got to work!

Step 1: Lightly Sand Wood

I lightly sanded the board with 220 grit sandpaper until the wood was smooth.

Step 2: Cut Wood

Then, I measured and cut the wood using a miter saw. I did a 1:2 ratio for my cuts.  So since the trim piece was 1 ½” wide, I measured the cuts for every 3”.

Step 3: Paint Wood

First, I wiped my wood pieces with denatured alcohol. Then, I spray painted them using Rust-Oleum’s Chalked Chiffon Cream. I had to do two coats to fully cover the wood.

Step 4: Measure & Paint Lines

I found and marked the center of each envelope.  Then, I drew a line using a pencil and a rule from the center to the two top corners.

With my pencil line done, I then used a small paint brush to trace a small black paint line over the pencil.

Step 5: Glue on Hearts

Finally, it was time to add the hearts! I thought I would have to cut the skewer stick off the bottom of the heart, but it actually just pulled out of the hearts.  A few of them gave me a hard time so I used a pair of pliers to pull the sticks out.

Once I had pulled all the hearts off, I then glued them to the envelopes using my hot glue gun.

With the hearts glued on, these mini wood love letters were done! They are perfect valentine’s day décor and are super easy to make.
